Help with buying in the UK?

Hi all
I wanted to invest in MindMed and Numi via Interactive Brokers/DIGERO but from what I can see, there is a minimum amount for buying on each platform?
IB says they want 2000 USD minimum and DIGERO's conversion seems off (almost double the share price) so I'm a bit stuck
Also, are these the only places I can buy at the moment? My plan is to buy about £500's worth of shares for each company (market order but unsure if i should do a different order since my plan is to buy and hold long term)
I've traded forex before and have investments in ETF"s but I've not really invested in stocks that much before so any help would be much appreciated.
Some backstory: my first psilocybin trip literally saved my life 2 and a half years ago. I've used it ever since and its helped me heal from decades of trauma. I also found out in my 20's I have ADHD so also have hopes for LSD mdsing. I truly believe in the power of psychedelics. Again, they actually saved my life. I want to be a part of this change in the world. We need it.
Thanks!

What is the best way to invest in ETFs while living in Germany?

Background: I posted this question on /eupersonalfinance https://www.reddit.com/eupersonalfinance/comments/iy7ay6/what_is_the_best_way_to_invest_in_index_funds_and/ and they said I should post here as well. I've made some changes to the question after more research.
My wife and I live in Germany. She is a EU citizen and I'm American. The account would be in her name to make things easier tax wise. We're interested in investing in ETFs. We're trying to decide on a platform to go with but are having trouble figuring out the best option for us. Ideally we'd like a platform that offers a wide selection of ETFs and it does not need to offer FOREX, cryptocurrency, etc.
Which potential option would you recommend for our situation? It'd be nice to hear anyone's feedback who has used any of these platforms.
  1. International Broker - Interactive Brokers or Fidelity International. We don't have 100k to invest so I don't think IB is the right option due to the 10 euro per month fee. Fidelity Int'l has a wide selection but I need to do more research to see what tax info they provide.
  2. German Brokers - Scalable Capital and Smartbroker look intriguing. I'm leaning towards the latter since they have been around longer.
  3. German Depot Konto - Commerzbank https://www.commerzbank.de/portal/de/privatkunden/sparen-anlegen/produkte/depotmodelle/depot-eroeffnen/depot-eroeffnen.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw5Kv7BRBSEiwAXGDElRF5GnUm8exUdl4NjmQ5eT3lBc6ypA4Xhmc_rn4Dclfs9oRlm8o3ZRoCnysQAvD_BwE. We're already customers there so it would be easy to setup an account. The costs here seem quite high and I don't know yet what kind of product range they offer.
We tried setting up an account with DKB since we read and heard good things about them and their Sparpläne is a solid price. Our account was rejected so we contacted customer service for their help. To put it nicely their customer service is terrible and we've decided to continue our search for a different company.

Factset: How You can Invest in Hedge Funds’ Biggest Investment
Tl;dr FactSet is the most undervalued widespread SaaS/IT solution stock that exists
If any of you have relevant experience or are friends with people in Investment Banking/other high finance, you know that Factset is the lifeblood of their financial analysis toolkit if and when it’s not Bloomberg, which isn’t even publicly traded. Factset has been around since 1978 and it’s considered a staple like Bloomberg in many wealth management firms, and it offers some of the easiest to access and understandable financial data so many newer firms focused less on trading are switching to Factset because it has a lot of the same data Bloomberg offers for half the cost. When it comes to modern financial data, Factset outcompetes Reuters and arguably Bloomberg as well due to their API services which makes Factset much more preferable for quantitative divisions of banks/hedge funds as API integration with Python/R is the most important factor for vast data lakes of financial data, this suggests Factset will be much more prepared for programming making its way into traditional finance fields. According to Factset, their mission for data delivery is to: “Integrate the data you need with your applications, web portals, and statistical packages. Whether you need market, company, or alternative data, FactSet flexible data delivery services give you normalized data through APIs and a direct delivery of local copies of standard data feeds. Our unique symbology links and aggregates a variety of content sources to ensure consistency, transparency, and data integrity across your business. Build financial models and power customized applications with FactSet APIs in our developer portal”. Their technical focus for their data delivery system alone should make it stand out compared to Bloomberg, whose UI is far more outdated and complex on top of not being as technically developed as Factset’s. Factset is the key provider of buy-side portfolio analysis for IBs, Hedge funds, and Private Equity firms, and it’s making its way into non-quantitative hedge funds as well because quantitative portfolio management makes automation of risk management and the application of portfolio theory so much easier, and to top it off, Factset’s scenario analysis and simulation is unique in its class. Factset also is able to automate trades based on individual manager risk tolerance and ML optimization for Forex trading as well. Not only does Factset provide solutions for financial companies, they are branching out to all corporations now and providing quantitative analytics for them in the areas of “corporate development, M&A, strategy, treasury, financial planning and analysis, and investor relations workflows”. Factset will eventually in my opinion reach out to Insurance Risk Management a lot more in the future as that’s a huge industry which has yet to see much automation of risk management yet, and with the field wide open, Factset will be the first to take advantage without a shadow of a doubt. So let’s dig into the company’s financials now:
Their latest 8k filing reported the following:
Revenue increased 2.6%, or $9.6 million, to $374.1 million compared with $364.5 million for the same period in fiscal 2019. The increase is primarily due to higher sales of analytics, content and technology solutions (CTS) and wealth management solutions.
Annual Subscription Value (ASV) plus professional services was $1.52 billion at May 31, 2020, compared with $1.45 billion at May 31, 2019. The organic growth rate, which excludes the effects of acquisitions, dispositions, and foreign currency movements, was 5.0%. The primary contributors to this growth rate were higher sales in FactSet's wealth and research workflow solutions and a price increase in the Company's international region
Adjusted operating margin improved to 35.5% compared with 34.0% in the prior year period primarily as a result of reduced employee-related operating expenses due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Diluted earnings per share (EPS) increased 11.0% to $2.63 compared with $2.37 for the same period in fiscal 2019.
Adjusted diluted EPS rose 9.2% to $2.86 compared with $2.62 in the prior year period primarily driven by an improvement in operating results.
The Company’s effective tax rate for the third quarter decreased to 15.0% compared with 18.6% a year ago, primarily due to an income tax expense in the prior year related to finalizing the Company's tax returns with no similar event for the three months ended May 31, 2020.
FactSet increased its quarterly dividend by $0.05 per share or 7% to $0.77 marking the fifteenth consecutive year the Company has increased dividends, highlighting its continued commitment to returning value to shareholders.
As you can see, there’s not much of a negative sign in sight here.
It makes sense considering how FactSet’s FCF has never slowed down:
https://preview.redd.it/frmtdk8e9hk51.png?width=276&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c0ff12539e0b2f9dbfda13d0565c5ce2b6f8f1a

https://preview.redd.it/6axdb6lh9hk51.png?width=593&format=png&auto=webp&s=9af1673272a5a2d8df28f60f4707e948a00e5ff1
FactSet’s annual subscriptions and professional services have made its way to foreign and developing markets, and many of them are opting for FactSet’s cheaper services to reduce costs and still get copious amounts of data and models to work with.
Here’s what FactSet had to say regarding its competitive position within the market of providing financial data in its last 10k: “Despite competing products and services, we enjoy high barriers to entry and believe it would be difficult for another vendor to quickly replicate the extensive databases we currently offer. Through our in-depth analytics and client service, we believe we can offer clients a more comprehensive solution with one of the broadest sets of functionalities, through a desktop or mobile user interface or through a standardized or bespoke data feed.” And FactSet is confident that their ML services cannot be replaced by anybody else in the industry either: “In addition, our applications, including our client support and service offerings, are entrenched in the workflow of many financial professionals given the downloading functions and portfolio analysis/screening capabilities offered. We are entrusted with significant amounts of our clients' own proprietary data, including portfolio holdings. As a result, our products have become central to our clients’ investment analysis and decision-making.” (https://last10k.com/sec-filings/fds#link_fullReport), if you read the full report and compare it to the most recent 8K, you’ll find that the real expenses this quarter were far lower than expected by the last 10k as there was a lower than expected tax rate and a 3% increase in expected operating margin from the expected figure as well. The company also reports a 90% customer retention rate over 15 years, so you know that they’re not lying when they say the clients need them for all sorts of financial data whether it’s for M&A or wealth management and Equity analysis:
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/f/factset.asp
https://preview.redd.it/yo71y6qj9hk51.png?width=355&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9414bdaa03c06114ca052304a26fae2773c3e45

FactSet also has remarkably good cash conversion considering it’s a subscription based company, a company structure which usually takes on too much leverage. Speaking of leverage, FDS had taken on a lot of leverage in 2015:

https://preview.redd.it/oxaa1wel9hk51.png?width=443&format=png&auto=webp&s=13d60d2518980360c403364f7150392ab83d07d7
So what’s that about? Why were FactSet’s long term debts at 0 and all of a sudden why’d the spike up? Well usually for a company that’s non-cyclical and has a well-established product (like FactSet) leverage can actually be good at amplifying returns, so FDS used this to their advantage and this was able to help the share’s price during 2015. Also, as you can see debt/ebitda is beginning a rapid decline anyway. This only adds to my theory that FactSet is trying to expand into new playing fields. FactSet obviously didn’t need the leverage to cover their normal costs, because they have always had consistently growing margins and revenue so the debt financing was only for the sake of financing growth. And this debt can be considered covered and paid off, considering the net income growth of 32% between 2018 and 2019 alone and the EPS growth of 33%
https://preview.redd.it/e4trju3p9hk51.png?width=387&format=png&auto=webp&s=6f6bee15f836c47e73121054ec60459f147d353e

EBITDA has virtually been exponential for FactSet for a while because of the bang-for-buck for their well-known product, but now as FactSet ventures into algorithmic trading and corporate development the scope for growth is broadly expanded.
https://preview.redd.it/yl7f58tr9hk51.png?width=489&format=png&auto=webp&s=68906b9ecbcf6d886393c4ff40f81bdecab9e9fd

P/E has declined in the past 2 years, making it a great time to buy.

https://preview.redd.it/4mqw3t4t9hk51.png?width=445&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8d719f4913883b044c4150f11b8732e14797b6d
Increasing ROE despite lowering of leverage post 2016

Mountains of cash have been piling up in the coffers increasing chances of increased dividends for shareholders (imo dividend is too low right now, but increasing it will tempt more investors into it), and on top of that in the last 10k a large buyback expansion program was implemented for $210m worth of shares, which shows how confident they are in the company itself.
https://preview.redd.it/fliirmpx9hk51.png?width=370&format=png&auto=webp&s=1216eddeadb4f84c8f4f48692a2f962ba2f1e848

SGA expense/Gross profit has been declining despite expansion of offices
I’m a bit concerned about the skin in the game leadership has in this company, since very few executives/board members have significant holdings in the company, but the CEO himself is a FactSet veteran, and knows his way around the company. On top of that, Bloomberg remains king for trading and the fixed income security market, and Reuters beats out FactSet here as well. If FactSet really wants to increase cash flow sources, the expansion into insurance and corp dev has to be successful.
Summary: FactSet has a lot of growth still left in its industry which is already fast-growing in and of itself, and it only has more potential at its current valuation. Earnings September 24th should be a massive beat due to investment banking demand and growth plus Hedge fund requirements for data and portfolio management hasn’t gone anywhere and has likely increased due to more market opportunities to buy-in.
Calls have shitty greeks, but if you're ballsy October 450s LOL, I'm holding shares
I’d say it’s a great long term investment, and it should at least be on your watchlist.

Personal Experience: Change brokerage from RBC&TD to interactive broker

I just want to share my personal experience change brokerage from RBC&TD to interactive broker since late 2019. I found interactive broker much better than TD/RBC for my US equity investment. I invest predominantly in US stocks, including Canadian companies dual listed in NYSE/NASDAQ.
Some of the big Pros:
  1. Very low commission compared to RBC/TD. 1USD for fixed pricing, 0.35 for tired pricing.
  2. Participation in pre-market and after-market. This help me to fill my aggressive limit order.
  3. USD/CAD forex is 2USD, even cheaper than Nombert Gambit.
  4. Fractional shares allow me to invest in Google/Amazon/Tesla in a more reasonable pace.(buy 500 dollars for four times vs buy 2000 at one time)
Some Cons:
  1. They have several platforms which is very confusing. TWS is most powerful but look ugly on Mac. Client portal is nice looking but function-lacking. I actually found IBKR IOS to be powerful but also nice looking, so end up mostly use IBKR IOS.
  2. Be careful using EFT deposit. There is a 60 business day holding period if withdrawal to a different bank.
  3. One might need to spend some time research on their fee structure, deposit/withdrawal procedure.
I have ignored IB for years due to it being an American brokerage and do not have physical locations. Finally tried it and now think it is the best for US equity investment in Canada. Hopefully if we move more investment to online brokerage such as Questrade/IB/Wealthsimple, eventually will shake the big 5 and force them to lower their ridiculous commission.(It is still nice to have one of the big 5 for some portfolio.)

Our most recent AMA with Terence Tan the Head of Business Development and Helen Astaniou Chief Marketing officer discussing TIO Markets: the next-generation of FX trading.

Our most recent AMA with Terence Tan the Head of Business Development and Helen Astaniou Chief Marketing officer discussing TIO Markets: the next-generation of FX trading.

TIO Markets: the next-generation of FX trading.
Q : If TIOMarkets is the first company to offer FX trading using crypto, why don't we switch the domain to dot com (.com) instead of dot uk (.uk) ?A >> We are switching to dot com (.com). The website is still in progress. What you see now is not the website that we are going to be launching with. So, don't worry about that.

Q : What is the symbiosis between the tradeio and TIOMarkets?A >> The biggest thing that I want to mention is the Liquidity Pool. Although there's different companies, and there's different entities, the registrations are completely different. Even the platforms are different between TIOMarkets and tradeio. However, what happens is as TIOMarkets gets bigger and stronger, and there's more volume, there are more clients. People are trading and the company is making money, the profit from that is going to go back into Liquidity Pool. Anybody on trade.io Liquidity Pool is going to start benefit in a big way when they start seeing that daily income get bigger and bigger. So, I would say that it’s probably the biggest symbiosis there.
Q : Tell a little bit about TIOMarkets and how we are planning to make it really big.A >> For TIOMarkets, we have been preparing for the launch for a long time and we really want to make this something very different. We have come up with innovative packages and innovative methods that appeal to traders. Without letting too much of the cat out of the bag, I just want to say that we have actually come up with certain subscription packages that really allow traders to experience some very innovative features and benefits.
Not only that, whatever that we are pushing out to our trading community, allows you to be able to trade with really low commissions. Commissions can be as low as 0 per standard lot. And spreads will be very low as well. And not only that, we are pushing out some really very innovative features.
We have actually talked to some traders about the features and they loved it. For example, one of the features is that it actually allows you to be able to (what I call), " add an undo" button for your trade. So, just imagine this scenario, imagine that you are actually trading and within the first 60 minutes of you executing your trade, if the market actually goes against you, if you actually took up insurance for the trade (for just a very small insurance premium), you will actually have the ability to undo your trade. And whatever floating losses you had will be reimbursed back to you.
Not only that, we believe that traders should be given a chance. Even if they make mistakes. So, just imagine this, within the first month of you trading with us (TIOMarkets), you somehow experience a margin call, or you lose what you put in, what we will do is that we will actually reimburse 50% of your first time deposit back for you to trade again. Why we do this is because we want to make it a point for our traders to have a second chance. We believe that everybody deserves a second chance to be able to learn as they go along. These are just some of the innovative benefits that we have come up with.

Q : How is the 10K users target going to be attained, apart from the 3 months free?A >> We are going to start on 2nd of April. We have 6 big pre-registration campaigns and each of those campaigns have a slightly different message, tone and they are going to be targeted to slightly different people target groups. So the idea is, whatever attracts you the most is the thing that helps you to click. So we've got a wide range of messaging, channels and platforms that we're using to get the message out and we are really going to go as big as we can to try and get the numbers in. We really believe that the numbers will be big for a lot of reasons.
And just to add to the previous question about what makes us different, some of here at the trade.io office have FX background. Like myself, we have been involved in FX before. We know the industry, we know what talks and what doesn't talk, we know what works and what doesn't work. We have seen that there is a lot of fatigue in the FX industry. The people are sick and tired of attempting to trade, and for various reasons (maybe that trade is not getting through, etc). Any reasons that makes it frustrating for the trader, when they just want to trade FX. And we are coming in here from this angle. We know the industry, we know what's possible and what not possible from a brokerage perspective. We are going to try to completely overcome any of those issues. Our solution to that problem is essentially the subscription package.
Here's the theory, that you are trading and where your usual FX brokerage is taking out their commission (maybe they are paying commissions for IB, maybe they are widening the spread, maybe they are taking money from here to try and meet their other target they've got). We are saying that none of that. We are not taking anything out. Our subscription package is very transparent. It is once per month at a fixed cost, you know what exactly that cost is and it is at very good price. And thereafter, your trading is essentially free. This will be really cheap and there will be big savings to be made.
This isn't anywhere else in the FX industry at the moment. It will be completely unique to us and it will be something that is extremely attractive to season traders. And for the millennials or the aspiring traders (who don't know how to trade yet), it will be appealing as well because we are saying we know what the issues are, we know what the problems are in FX. If you trade with us, thing are clear, things are clean. We'll support and educate you and you will have a much better overall experience.
That’s our positioning. Aside from that, we've got the FCA Regulation, which is absolutely huge. I'm just personally speaking having worked for a couple of FX companies in the past that didn't have the FCA Regulation, it was always something that clients keeps asking for. So that is one that is really significant for us.
**Terence adding in to Helen's explanation >> Coming from the viewpoint of a lot of us have in the FX industry, one way or another, we really want to come from the angle where we want to be able to create a perfect trading environment for traders. At this point of time we are putting the focal point on our traders creating an environment which is great from them in terms of trading and not like other brokers out there where the emphasis is mainly on profit. Whatever we do such as the subscription packages and the other innovative features that we have are all from the view of a trader.

Q : What makes us stand out from the competitors?
A >> Its going to be our subscription package that isn't available anywhere else. Secondly would be the TIO reimburse (that's what Terence talked about before).Next would be the TIO Shield. That is our fancy name for the really cool feature whereby if you trade on a specific currency pair and if it all goes wrong, you will get your money back (essentially minus a small premium). These are the 3 big points that differentiates us aside from the other stuffs I've said about our tone and angle.
Q : Should we expect TIOMarkets to be fully operational on the 9th of April?
A >> We are opening the doors for pre-registration on the 2nd of April. We've got a little surprise campaign coming out a little earlier than that. That's all I'll say about that for now but then there are 10,000. We don't know exactly when that will be. We believe that it will be sooner rather than later. Even so, one week wouldn't be long enough, so give us a couple of weeks and then we will fully open the doors and let you know when that will be.
Q : The profit for trade.io will just come from the subscription and not from the spreads?
A >> It comes from both, actually. The profit from the company comes firstly from the subscription packages. And then secondly, we are going to be offering what I am calling an "ala carte" option which is maybe you don’t want to pay monthly, that's fine. You can just trade on-the-go as you go. And the spreads will be a little wider but we're going to be fully transparent and honest about that. So, it's your choice which you prefer to trade.
** Additional point from Helen >> It is going to be green (beginner) user friendly and we're creating some pretty cool educational packages. Pretty much everything we're doing, we are saying right. What is different to what we've done before, what is different to how the others are doing it. How can we make it more interesting, less jargony and more fun. Thus it will be definitely friendlier to new users.
Q : Who is our liquidity provider?
A >> that is way out of the marketing remit perhaps. We (Helen and Terence) are unable to answer that.
Q : What is our plan to get partners onboard?
A >> We actually have a very big plan in terms of having joint venture partners and affiliate onboarding because we believe affiliates are going to play a very big part of our whole entire strategy. So we actually have plans that will be launched in Phases.
We'll be paying our joint venture partner and affiliates CPA commissions. Those of you who are in the industry will be familiar with that its Cost Per Acquisitions(CPA). So depending of the numbers of traders or clients that you refer to us and which country they are from you will be paid one time CPA commission. This is kind of controversial in the sense of we don't pay out IB commission because what is mentioned earlier, we basically want to create a great trading environment for traders and probably those of you who know that when IB commissions were paid it has to come from somewhere and very often is comes from the traders. So in our case we are just paying one time CPA commission. Later on down the road, we will launch other hybrid commission program as well. In terms of the CPA commission we'll also allow our partners to be able to have sub-affiliates as well down to about 2 tiers. In other words, not only you will be able to refer traders but you will actually be able to refer sub-affiliate as well.
Not only that, previously like Helen mentioned we actually have a lot of different funnel which we coming out with and those funnel will be made available to our affiliate as well so we'll be testing those funnels and we'll let you know whichever funnel that works, we'll provide you with the emails plus we provides you with the banners and landing pages. So all you have to do as an affiliates is to mail to our databases or however you're going to drive the traffic to your landing pages and after that the company will take over to help you convert those leads into actual clients for you.
It is really exciting in term of the partners. We are giving all the resources they need, we are making the resources as attractive as possible, to make it easiest as possible for them to make lots of money. That will help us a lot. And just as at the partnership side, we've got an exciting addition to the team over here. We've got a new Head of partnership that started with us today in fact and she is a bit of a of a big deal in FX. She has got some of the incredible contacts and networks so that we can really hit the ground when it comes to the partnership.
Q : When is our website is going to live?A >> Firstly, we are going to have what we called landing pages go live on the 2nd. They are individual pages not connected to a bigger website specifically and their purpose is specifically to lead generate. So there we will be going live. For the actual website is as you all know is a big project and a work in progress so that’s going to come a bit later.
Q : How are we going to differentiate ourselves?
A >> I've seen it three or four times now on the chat they are very worried about how we are going to differentiate ourselves. We will! You can trust that we'll because as I said we've been there and we've done that. We've been in FX before. Many of us we don’t want to be like the other brokers. We going to be different not only our offerings and our products but in the way that we express those things. From the tone to the visuals to the actual offerings. It's going to be a breath of fresh air in all aspects apart from the actual platform we're using which is a very well-known very popular platform and of course the instruments are going to be popular instruments that will also be offered by the brokers we can't differentiate there, we don't want to. So, you'll see.
Q : Will hedging be available and what is the maximum leverage available ?A >> Yes and the maximum leverage 1:500
Q : Is there any plans to collaborate with another full bright firm like another Forex firm or other to boost our trade volume?
A >> No plans to partner with another FX at this stage to boost our trading volume.

7 reasons why should you become an Introducing Broker with IQ Option? Reason #4 - Trading Strategies Review

When working on the financial markets, traders can utilize dozens of different strategies.
It is worth saying that there is no ultimate one-fit-all strategy that works for all traders, all instruments and all timeframes. Each trader has to develop a trading strategy of his own. What trading strategy is the best? There is no clear answer to this question, as some strategies that have demonstrated decent results in the past do not work today. Put shortly, an optimal strategy is the one that works. Or, in other words, the one that consistently provides positive returns. If the strategy consistently provides negative results (the trader is losing more than he is earning), this strategy should obviously not be used.
As already mentioned, as there is no single «best strategy», traders may want to look at several factors when developing a strategy of their own. First is the instrument they want to trade. It is no secret that that Stocks behave differently than Forex, and ETF trading is quite different from cryptocurrency trading. Hence, the first rule. Decide on the financial instrument before developing a strategy. Secondly, choose the time frame you want to trade. Intraday trading is radically different from value investing. Choose the time frame first and decide on the strategy second. We have covered the time frame and chart types in our previous article. Thirdly, adjust your trading strategy to your trading style. As in life, we are much more likely to be successful in something that we like. The same applies to trading. If you don’t like how a particular strategy works, find another one. It is as simple as that.
Now, to the strategies themselves. As already mentioned, trading strategies are numerous. This article is not enough to list all of them. Nevertheless, we can provide a list of the most notable ones.

https://preview.redd.it/j67438iykym31.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2530db3429aedc7574bc99e370363445f8e8426c
Day trading
Day trading is a strategy that implies that all positions are being opened and closed within the same day. This strategy is common among Forex traders. Currency pairs can demonstrate decent movements over the course of one day. Moreover, the use of leverage can turn miniscule price swings into tangible gains. Forex, however, is not the only asset class to be traded like that. Cryptocurrencies, for example, can also be traded on a daily basis. One thing that is absolutely required for day trading is high volatility, as it is impossible to trade when the market is flat.
Value Investing
A strategy that is commonly used with stocks, value investing implies that the trader first has to find the discrepancy between the market and the intrinsic (real) value of a particular stock. In order to do this, he will go through earnings reports and key financial metrics. If the intrinsic value is higher than the market one, it is wise to buy the stock. Conversely, if the company is traded at a price that is higher than its intrinsic value, it can be expected to go down (the time when this will happen, however, is not set).
Swing Trading Strategy
When using this strategy, traders try to capitalize on the sudden price swings, hence the name. In a lot of markets, and for a lot of assets, sudden price movements are quite common. One way to apply the swing strategy is to find a strong trend and wait for a retracement. A retracement is a short-term move in the opposite direction that doesn’t change the direction of the bigger trend. When the retracement happens, the asset price will depreciate, but since it is only a retracement and not the trend reversal, the price can be expected to go up again. All in all, this is a practical application of the ‘buy low, sell high’ technique.
Scalping
Scalping is a subtype of the day trading strategy. As in day trading, all deals are being opened and closed within the same day. Yet, the number of deals and their duration will vary significantly. When applying the classic day trading strategy, you can open as little as one deal and it will still classify as day trading. In scalping, things are a little bit different. Traders open a big number of deals, stacking up small gains over time. In scalping deals can be as short as a few seconds. All in all, it is an interesting strategy that a lot of traders, especially on the Forex market, find useful.
News Trading

Political and economic news have the potential to affect the asset prices and move the entire markets. Here are two examples to illustrate how powerful news trading can be. On the Forex market, traders buy and sell national currencies in pairs. Their exchange rate is a good proxy for the well-being of the respective national economy. When the American economy flourishes, so does the USD, and vice versa. When the US economy is in crisis, the USD will also depreciate. Of course, it is more complicated than that, but the general idea is roughly like this.
Forex is not the only market that is affected by the news. The equity market, where corporate stocks are traded, is another example. Corporate news, like an appointment of a new CEO or a new sales milestone, can make the company move up or down. People, interested in stocks trading, have to follow corporate news and evaluate the overall business climate in order to make well-rounded decisions.

These are the 5 common trading strategies. Of course, they are not limited to these, as there are endless opportunities on the market. Yet, for those willing to start somewhere, this list can provide an idea or two. Choose the one that suits your trading style and you are good to go.

7 reasons why should you become an Introducing Broker with IQ Option?

7 reasons why should you become an Introducing Broker with IQ Option?

Reason #2 — Market Analysis & Blog!

IQ Option trading platform
There is plenty of information available for IQ Option traders and partners: from timely news and forecasts to guides and trading strategies. The main point of the Market Analysis and IQ Blog is to show how easily you can create an alternative to professional news outlets, magazines and websites, dedicated entirely to trading witch one you can monetise with IQ Option Introducing Broker program. There are several reasons to use Market Analysis when introducing customers to the platform and turn to blog articles when looking for information. This article will help you understand how you can benefit from the value that both provide to traders.

https://preview.redd.it/pr3qbeam9ej31.png?width=2554&format=png&auto=webp&s=f54d9041e6609a9a68e8a5490278eea3e77227ea
First, both features are tailored specifically to IQ Option clients and our partners are welcome to use our intellectual products with a relevant reference. In our articles we write about assets that are readily available on the platform and avoid the unnecessary information noise — things that are either not important or do not directly affect your traders’ the trading process. In times when overabundance of information is inevitable, being able to read things that really matter is a huge plus. This feature can save a lot of time and help traders concentrate on what is really important.
Secondly, market analysis can be found on the trading platform itself. Usually, traders have to consult external sources when looking for breaking news and updates regarding the assets they are about to trade. This is no longer the problem when trading with IQ Option. Everything traders should know about the assets of their choice can be found without leaving the trading app.
News, Economic Calendar and Earnings Calendar are three separate tabs in the Market Analysis interface. Each of them is dedicated to a separate trading aspect.

https://preview.redd.it/a85vcx2q9ej31.png?width=2558&format=png&auto=webp&s=50d6ffd13e01fae47c9b8484965d6a9ac26351b1
News’ concentrates on delivering timely information on the world’s most important financial and economic events. Currency exchange rate fluctuations and events that have triggered them can be found here. Major political events, as well, can directly influence the exchange rate of national currencies.

https://preview.redd.it/h6gkk8ks9ej31.png?width=2558&format=png&auto=webp&s=b08c69dabeb4bfaa93ed5da93b485f84cab3f87a
Economic Calendar’ is a collection of upcoming Forex-related events. In the world of trading everything is interconnected. Inflation rates and unemployment can affect the exchange rate of national currencies. Economic Calendar, therefore, warns traders of upcoming announcements that can be turned into trading opportunities. Is a useful feature that can be found on numerous Forex-related websites and online services.
Earnings Calendar’ works in the same manner as Economic Calendar but for Stock Market. Stock prices go up and down depending on the fundamentals — important metrics that mirror the financial wellbeing of the company. Earnings reports (quarterly financial announcements made by all public companies) can trigger massive price swings. It is, therefore, beneficial to have them all listed in one place, knowing when to trade what company.
One more source of invaluable knowledge is IQ Blog, a resource dedicated to in-depth materials. What kind of articles can be found in the IQ Option Blog? Most articles fall into one of the following categories: technical analysis, industry news, platform upgrades, trading strategies, and tips.

https://preview.redd.it/r449q0zw9ej31.png?width=2558&format=png&auto=webp&s=243ea9b5375464fa1bcd46eebb5ab97f104b8e5d
Technical analysis is an extremely important element of most trading strategies. Indicators and patterns, applied correctly, can yield impressive results. Mastery in this field can set successful traders apart from their less successful counterparts. Even when trading with fundamentals in mind, traders still turn to technical analysis in order to validate certain theories and double-check investment decisions they are about to make. Both newcomers and industry veterans turn to it to increase their chances of success. Hence the sheer number of articles on the topic of indicators and technical analysis in general.
Technical analysis, however, is not the only topic that is covered in the IQ Blog. Articles also feature earnings reports, trading-related news, platform upgrades, strategies and tips. By reading them, traders can learn about important upcoming events, trading opportunities and ways to capitalize on them.
All in all, these two features — Market Analysis and IQ Blog — can help an aspiring trader become better by providing timely and accurate information on a wide range of topics: from technical analysis indicators and patterns to stock and currency trading. In trading, education is extremely important. As in any other pursuit, the same principles apply to the financial markets: the more you know, the more informed decision you make, the better the final result.

[Serious] I'm done with RH tendies boys, I'm ready to upgrade to a real broker...buuuut...

...which one?
Now, I've been shopping around a little bit, and understand enough of the markets to have narrowed down my picks to USAA, IB, and Optionhouse, but I'm looking to see if anyone has some experience with the advantages and disadvantages of the platforms, and what I should be considering before I take the plunge off the peir.
1) USAA. Commission is pretty gnarley, but through family assistance, I will be trading at the reduced commission rate of ~$6 pretty consistantly. Gives advance currency exchanges for trading foreign companies, and seems to have a competent, if not exactly sleek UI. Can't figure out how to access options on it though. I'm told they have very good fulfillment and instantanious placement times for orders, but I'm not sure how relevant that is.
2) Interactive Brokers: Lowest comissions of the 3, until I start playing with bigboys numbers, and won't need y'alls advisories, so don't worry about that. From what I can see, they're inconveniant as fuck, but you get what you don't pay for. I am <25, so I only need 3k to open an account with them, and that's not a problem. They don't do forex/futures (don't remember which), but that's fine cause I'm not interested in those yet.
3) Optionshouse: Somewhere between the previous two. Reasonable commission rates, very competative options trading rates, but not much said about them in the fors-or-againsts. Going into this one mostly blind.
Can anyone add any significant DDs on these brokers that I should be considering, or even feilding some of their own? I'm done with Robinhood and it's buggy piece of fuckery that not even an autistic faggot like me can abide.
(Don't worry about shitflinging, ima take everything in here with a mountain of salt. I just wanna hear peoples experiences/gripes about them)

Introduction to investing as a U.S. citizen residing in Japan

Foreward
If you're old enough to pay taxes, you should start investing. The earlier, the better.
Here’s another example to illustrate the enormous benefit of getting an early start. At age 25, Eric Early invests $4,000 per year in a Roth IRA for 10 years and stops investing. His total investment is $40,000. Larry Lately makes yearly deposits of $4,000 in his Roth IRA starting at age 35 for 30 years. His total investment is $120,000. Assuming both portfolios earn an 8 percent average annual return, at age 65, Eric’s IRA will be worth $629,741, but Larry’s IRA will be worth only $489,383. By starting 10 years earlier and making one third of the investment, Eric ends up with 29 percent more.

  • Your income is in JPY
  • You want to invest in U.S. equity (stock market, bond market, etc)
  • You have basic knowledge about taxes and tax-related terms
  • You have at least $10,000 USD to invest (or $3,000 USD if age 25 or younger)
Background
I am an ordinary guy living in Japan. I have disposable income and, rather than pour all of it into my local izakaya and Philipino hookers (who hang out in front of Mister Donut at night and ask if I "want the massage?" (just kidding, really!)), I wanted to invest in my future by saving for retirement. I'm an early 30's-year-old guy and spent about a month reading up on investing and then set off trying to invest as a resident of Japan.
My Story
I moved to Japan 3 years ago after working in the U.S. I have an IRA leftover from my time in the U.S., but never contributed to it since moving to Japan (thankfully - find out why in a bit). I recently saw a post from /personalfinance (seriously, go read information in that sub if you want to have more money upon retirement or just get out of debt!) and decided to read the book "The Boglehead's Guide to Investing" based on recommendations there. After that, I started looking into my options for investing from Japan.
Before I left the U.S. for Japan, I rolled over my 401k into an IRA using Vanguard (arguably the best broker available for U.S. citizens). Since moving to Japan, I had not contributed anything to my IRA. So, the first thing I wanted to do was start contributing to my IRA again, and use any remainder to invest in U.S. equity. Turns out this is not as easy as it sounds.
I found out that in order to legally contribute to my IRA, I had to pay U.S. taxes on my income used to contribute to it. Well, if you're like me and don't make an awful lot of money, you're probably filing with Foreign Tax Credit/IRS Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. This stuff basically let's you deduct all your taxes in Japan, as it on Japanese income and you already paid glorious Nippon taxes on that income. For me, this basically meant that I owed the IRS absolutely nothing every year. Great! Right? Buuuuut since I didn't pay any U.S. tax on my income, I cannot use it to contribute to my IRA! Dammit! (But actually a blessing in disguise because if I had been contributing to my IRA, I would have been breaking U.S. tax law because I didn't pay taxes on it.)
So, I started looking into other ways to invest: the U.S. stock market, bonds, etc. After reading The Boglehead's Guide, I knew I wanted to invest in Vanguard's mutual index funds. My first instinct was to open a brokerage account (which is different from your IRA account) with Vanguard. I started filling out the online form, but ran into issues. You have to specify a U.S. address. Also, you have to specify your U.S. employer. I had neither of these, so I called Vanguard (from Japan at a ridiculous call charge) and spoke with someone about doing this. They gave me the OK but said I'd have to submit a paper form through snail mail, and sent me a PDF to fill out and mail in. I mailed it (from Japan using EMS which was like $20..), and got a call about a week later. Surprise! Because I'm not working in Japan temporarily for a U.S. company or living on a U.S. military base (considered U.S. soil, I assume?), I actually can't open a brokerage account with them. Dammit again! What a waste of money calling them and mailing the form overseas.
So, I started looking into other options. I read about a few other brokers and most people agreed that I should either use Fidelity or Interactive Brokers. I had never heard of Interactive Brokers and honestly they seemed scary at first, so I decided to go with Fidelity, who I had actually heard of and is a U.S. based firm. I created an account with Fidelity, but once again ran into roadblocks when trying to open a stock trading account. I didn't have a U.S. address or employer, and actually wasn't able to link my U.S. bank account with them either (for reasons unknown). Dammit once again!
So, I started reading more about Interactive Brokers. Okay, it's still a little scary, but there are positive reports about using them online. I signed up for an account with minimal hassle, linked up my bank account, was able to transfer money over to them, and then successfully bought U.S. shares! Sweet success! Finally!

How to Invest

Part I: Contributing to your IRA
If you do not have an IRA, you probably should, as they are your basic investment option and tax-friendly to boot. However, good luck setting one up as a resident in Japan! Vanguard will happily babysit an IRA you opened prior to leaving the U.S., but they will not let you open a new one with a foreign address. I don't know about other brokers such as Fidelity or Schwabb, but it's probably the same story there.
If you are like me and happen to have an IRA leftover in the U.S., you CAN contribute to it, but in order to do so you must not deduct your Japanese tax on your IRS 1040 or file Form 1116, "Foreign Tax Credit". In other words, you must pay U.S. taxes on any income used to contribute to the IRA.
Refer to your broker for how to actually get the money to them from Japan.
Part II: Investing in U.S. Equity from Japan
Using Interactive Brokers
First, let me tell you a little bit about Interactive Brokers (IB). They are a service mostly used by regulaprofessional traders. The fees are very low and reasonable. However, they have a service charge of $10/month if your commission is equal to or less than $10 USD in that month. This is probably not a problem for people over 25 years old investing with $10,000+ USD, but for people 25 and under with an initial investment of $3000, it's possible you might not make the minimum commission per month. Beware of this fee.
IB lets you fund the account from many different currencies, regardless of what market you are buying (this needs confirmation, but seems to be accurate). So, whether you have a U.S. bank account or a Japanese bank account, you can fund the IB account. You can even fund from both.
IB does not let you invest in U.S. mutual funds. This sounds like a deal-breaker, but it's actually not. You can still invest in U.S. ETFs. This includes Vanguard's total stock market index ETF, total bond market index ETF, etc.
IB has an iPhone app that is pretty good and probably an Android app too. Although, as someone doing long-term investing for retirement, you probably don't need this and don't want to be checking your account too much (refer to /personalfinance as to why).
IB has multiple account types. You will probably see IBLLC and IBSJ. The differences are two-fold: First: an IBSJ is only used to trade Japan domestic equity. You don't want this because you want to trade U.S. equity. Instead, IBLLC is used to trade overseas (U.S. equity). Second: as of 2016, IBJS requires your My Number information, but IBLLC does not. Again, you don't want IBJS, so don't worry about the My Number information.
Open a "Japan Resident Individual Account for IBLLC" account online. This is a lengthy process. Make sure you have the required information.
  • You will need to send info about your current address in Japan, your 在留カード (zairyuu/"gaijin" card), job information, bank account information, and so on. I got confused and sent my My Number card information as well, but this only caused a hiccup in their process and I was told to remove it. Don't submit your My Number information.
  • You need to choose your base currency. Your base currency determines what currency you trade in and receive dividends/money from selling in. I think you need to specify USD here, but not sure. I chose USD because U.S. stocks are in USD and I used my U.S. bank account to intially fund my account. It may not matter, but this needs confirmation.
  • You need to specify that you have trading experience. I forget the actual numbers you need to put into the form, but make sure you put enough experience that allows you to trade ETFs overseas. You can fiddle with the numbers right there in the form, and options open up as you change the numbers. Play with it until it's just right. This part is hazy, and just seems to be some safeguards for IB so that new investors can't sue/blame IB for their own trading stupidity when they lose all their money. If you really don't have any experience trading, IB offers virtual "fake" accounts you can use to play around with trading. I suggest you try it.
After about a week you should have your new account. The next step is funding it, or you may have selected to fund it up front when you created the account so it may already be done. Anyway, the easiest way is to have IB request the wire transfer from your bank. I did this. It was really annoying, but it took about another week or so to go through. Beware that you probably can't start buying right away and need to wait for the transfer to clear.
Congratulations! You're ready to start buying now. Refer to /personalfinance in what to invest in. Remember that you are limited to buying ETFs and a few other things, and not mutual funds (but you can get their ETF equivalents).
Using
TBD... (anyone want to fill this out?)
Part III: Taxes
You need to declare and pay taxes on your dividends and any capital gains you make. Beware.
TBD... (this is arguably the most important part, but I just don't have time to go into it now. Someone feel free to help!)
TL;DR: Open an account with Interactive Brokers online and buy ETFs.

Ego Trading & Humility-How managing your ego can help you improve

“Who is more humble? The scientist who looks at the universe with an open mind and accepts whatever the universe has to teach us, or somebody who says everything in this book must be considered the literal truth and never mind the fallibility of all the human beings involved?” ― Carl Sagan
Most often regardless of which online community be it stocktwits, reddit, facebook or discord I've seen traders either admitting to failure or those who avoid admitting those failures making grandiose claims that couldn't otherwise be further from the truth. But how do you navigate what people are saying, those who are actually profiting and learning from their mistakes or those who are choosing to be in a rut? Things we need to get out of the way first(summary for everything):
*Everyone has an ego, you cannot silence it because an ego is your sense of "self". You can only learn to manage it. *You do this by not trying to fight it, acknowledge it, listen to it, then make a clear distinction between what you're ego is telling you. And what is actually real. *An Ego is actually a good thing because it's likely what has driven you want to become a trader in the first place and will likely drive you to success if you can use it as a strength and not let it be a weakness
Think on this; trading is a magnet for ego, it promises rich rewards for those who can get into the 90%, it has proven time and time again that only 10-20% of traders are successful for any market. It's a sobering thought, and most likely will turn away a lot of traders from ever even clicking buy. Often you will see comments arguing that it is 85%, 90% or 95%, it does not matter, you will still have more of a chance in becoming a navy seal than you do becoming a successful trader. this is one thing specifically that I have seen people argue about here...and it is probably some of the most useless information to argue over if you were to pick something, it is high, regardless of it being 90% or 95% and it will not help you get better.
But why argue about it at all? this is the kicker, ego. People often become so frustrated with trading that they have a contrarian view to almost anything, this is not a good way to learn anything, period. If a stance is submitted they immediately become skeptical rather than doing DD. It is understandable people are often very suspicious of the information they receive, so many brokerages are handing out IB contracts like hotcakes to people who have never clicked buy or sell on anything other than Amazon. These are the people who are making real money selling fake programs and spreading misinformation, like alot of brokerages. In the forex market, it is even more cutthroat than stocks, this is because your brokerages, if they operate through a dealing desk, will actively trade against you, FXCM went out of business in the US because the NFA and CFTC came down on them hard for lying to their consumer base.
In regards to fixing all of this.. it will take a level of self-reflection. If there was one thing I wanted to bring from the equities market to the foreign exchange it would be Due Diligence a mix of fundamental analysis/technical to study what this person is saying and if it, in fact, aligns with your beliefs this means you are better suited to address someone else's comment rather than letting yourself get carried away. This means that if you see an opinion be it informed or uninformed you look at that opinion with a neutral view, and you do your due diligence based upon what the author states. It is exactly the difference of information you receive if someone recommended you buy SPY and someone, said buy a sub-1$ biotech company(protip: don't do that).
Good luck out there :)

[investments] Cheapest and safest way to hold shares, options etc for 1 year at a time

I currently have approx £100k wasting away abroad in a savings account at about 4%... Because I have, up until now been unsure what to do with it, paralysed with caution.
I'm used to trading futures but through FXCM, who are primarily known as a forex broker.
What I'd like to do is have an account option to: - position a multi year hold in a few indexes, notably FTSE100, Spx500 But also - I'd like to be able to put 'some' aside, ready to invest in any opportunity I may see. I really want to be able to react quickly to as much as I can, from investing in the South African index, to a set of companies in China, to lithium and to be able to short oil and gas. these positions would be held for a year on average
I am also concerned for the security of the funds of course. I would really like to have the original paper certificate available to me if I find something I want to keep for more than 5 years
I noticed International Brokers has a UK branch and they have private insurance for UK residents. However... I'm not sure the fees are really designed for such long holds... It seems for day trading?... But they seem to have a wide range of markets available.
I guess the basic question behind all this is: is £9/share cheaper than IB if I hold for a year?

Help with transaction denominated in foreign currency

I’m hoping this will be a straight-forward answer for some knowledgeable people. I don’t have much forex experience and also don’t have too much experience on interactive brokers. I recently purchased a basket of yen-denominated securities and wanted to hedge my currency exposure (usd is my base currency) since I believe these specific companies are likely to be undervalued but I do not want to opine on exchange rate movements. Since I didn’t convert my usd to yen before making the purchase IB automatically loaned me the yen so I have a negative yen balance that I’m paying interest on.
So, what does this mean for my total yen-denominated stock strategy? I am long the stocks but I believe I’m short yen from the loan and need to go long yen to truly offset the currency risk. Every time I think I understand it I can basically convince myself of the opposite (if share prices stay the same couldn't I just satisfy the loan with the yen proceeds? Or is loan denominated in usd). Comments very much appreciated.

It is a two-day event for traders, investors, affiliates, IBs, fintech companies and brokers from across China and the world.
As the new MiFID II and ESMA regulatory framework tightens up the European forex market, brokers and investors are driving offshore to a new markets like China. China investors and traders become much more active today, presenting a huge opportunity for offshore/local brokers, affiliates, money managers, technology providers, liquidity providers and other specialized services providers. Moreover, china¡¯s unique cultural background makes it hard for overseas brokerage firms to maintain healthy relationship with clients and sometimes they even have no clue about how to enter the market, given several incidents that European-based brokers were physically threatened by angry investors. Thus, offline events and interaction become a must-attend for those planning to expand their clientele in China. In addition, concepts like blockchain, cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin gradually open people¡¯s mind here and many more are talking about it. What does Chinese think of cryptocurrencies? Is blockchain technology that good as it claims? What¡¯s the prospect of blockchain in China?
The 7th China Forex Expo is an excellent place for you to network, to share your insights, and to unlock the secrets of doing business in China.
